Authoring the Webverse, an original visual universe.
When I started CoverTurn, every agency was reaching for the same clean-Swiss-minimalism. To stand out in a market full of identical-looking AI agencies, I built an original visual universe from blank canvas: comic-book printing meets editorial typography, halftone dots meets CMYK chromatic aberration, maximalist energy meets serif elegance. I called it the Webverse.
Build a brand strong enough to stand on its own visual register.
The brand had to do unusual work. Feel different at first glance, stay different at the third, and hold across a website, chatbot widget, voice agent, demo gallery, social, and pitch material without stretching thin. The opportunity was a visual register the AI agency category wasn't yet using.
A visual gap between comic-book maximalism and editorial restraint.
Audited dozens of brands across AI startups, design agencies, hospitality, comic-book printing, K-pop visual identity, and Spider-Verse animation. Premium AI was leaning quiet and minimal. Consumer AI was leaning maximalist and playful. Almost nobody was trying to be both at once.
The system: comic-book printing crossed with editorial typography. Halftone Ben-Day dots and CMYK misregistration for print-craft texture. Big condensed display type for editorial confidence. A spider mascot for personality.

Seven elements applied with discipline: halftone Ben-Day dots, CMYK chromatic aberration, spider-web patterns, comic-panel borders, crosshatch texture, CMYK offset section dividers, speed lines. Used in measure they signal print-craft heritage. Overused they collapse into noise.
Wordmark
Wordmark: Inter Bold, two-tone with the action half ("Turn") in Electric Orange. Halftone dot field underneath, low opacity. The dot becomes the brand's smallest signal of print-craft heritage.
Headline voice

Headline specimen: Big Shoulders Display Black at 96px. Triple-layered text-shadow recreates four-plate CMYK misregistration in cyan and hot pink, evoking comic-book printing.
Colour system
Colour system: 60/30/10 ratio. Sixty percent ink black or warm white, thirty percent Electric Orange, ten percent Electric Teal as accent. Deep purples replace flat black on dark sections so the halftone and chromatic aberration effects stay legible. CMYK ghost colours (Hot Pink #FF1493, Cyan #00E5FF) appear only inside text-shadow misregistration, never as UI colours.
Type system
Big Shoulders Display Black 900. Condensed, angular, maximum impact. Always uppercase. Tight tracking.
The Webverse is held together by seven design elements applied with discipline: halftone Ben-Day dots, CMYK chromatic aberration, spider-web patterns.
Inter Regular 400 at 17px with 155% line-height. Maximum readability across breakpoints.
Space Grotesk Semi-Bold 600. Wider tracking, uppercase, geometric character that echoes the Webverse aesthetic.
Big Shoulders has attitude without being novelty. Inter brings industry-standard readability. Space Grotesk's geometric quirks bridge the two registers.

Mascot · Ziggy
Anansi (the West African and Caribbean trickster spider) crossed with Ziggy Stardust. One round Electric Orange body, eight legs, halftone dots, bold black outlines, expressive teal eyes. Gender-neutral by design.
Designed from imagination, brought to life through iterative prompting in Google's Nano Banana, and animated into the live product.
Four core poses for four core jobs. Hero (homepage, product surface). Wink (engagement, chatbot avatar). Excited (client-win celebrations, social wins). Unimpressed (website roasts, content). Each pose was generated in Nano Banana Pro from a tightly written character brief, then refined.
Pattern library
Three of the seven core patterns. Halftone Ben-Day dots (visible at 35-45% opacity, never higher). Spider-web radial pattern (used as section background, motif on dark surfaces). CMYK offset divider (replaces flat horizontal rules between sections, evokes printing-press misregistration).
Logo / icon
CT lettermark. Orange C plus white T on Ink Black with a subtle halftone texture. Logo is the lettermark; mascot lives separately in content and social. Two distinct jobs, two distinct surfaces. The icon is designed to remain legible at favicon scale (16px and below), which is where most agency icons collapse.
Accessibility & motion floor
A maximalist system has to work harder on the floor that holds it up. Every body-text combination in the Webverse is contrast-tested to WCAG 2.2 AA (4.5:1 minimum), including white on Deep Purple #150a30 and Ink Black on Light Grey #F5F5F5. The CMYK ghost shadows that sit behind headlines are decoration only, never load-bearing for legibility. Halftone fields cap at 35–45% opacity precisely because anything higher reduces text contrast below the threshold. Comic-panel borders use a 3px stroke and sit outside the type, never overlapping it.
The motion side is handled with the same discipline. Every chromatic aberration, halo, and animated transition respects prefers-reduced-motion and degrades to a static state when the user opts out. The system feels loud. The floor underneath it is quiet.
One system, eight or more applied surfaces.
The system isn't a brand book gathering dust. It's applied across the full agency surface: product site, chatbot widget, voice-agent persona, social, demo gallery for niche-specific client mockups, pitch deck, partner one-pagers, intake forms. The fact that one designer can hold the whole system in their head while shipping every surface is the entire point. The system makes that possible.

What authoring a brand from blank canvas taught me.
Discipline is the brand. Halftone at 35-45% opacity, never higher. CMYK aberration on headlines only. Mascot in content, never the icon. Tight rules are what stop a maximalist system from collapsing into noise.
Originality compounds. The first niche demo took a week. The eighth took an afternoon. A strong centre makes every new application cheaper than the last.
